Since 1874, in the heart of the Maipo valley, Viña Tarapacá has been crafting unique wines of outstanding quality. These estate bottled wines earned their first award in the US in 1876, and have been obtaining awards ever since.
In his recent visit to Chile in April, the renowned US critic tasted over 600 domestic wines, and amongst those the Gran Reserva Tarapacá range stood out with excellent scores.
The Gran Reserva Tarapacá Etiqueta Azul 2013 from the Maipo Valley, received a remarkable 94 points. This high end blend, crafted with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 20% Syrah was described in its tasting note as a “fascinating” wine, “a stylish red with subtle and complex aromas and flavors of spice, meat, berry and bark. Full body, bright and fresh. Shows tension and beauty”.
Meanwhile, the Gran Reserva Tarapacá Etiqueta Negra 2013, from the Maipo Valley, was awarded 93 points and described by Suckling as “Classic Maipo cabernet.”
The Gran Reserva Tarapacá Carménère 2014 from the Maipo Valley, also stood out with 92 points and was described as a “fascinating Carménère”.
Moreover, the Gran Reserva Tarapacá Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, and the organic blend, Tarapacá Plus 2012, both from the Maipo Valley, received 91 points.
The Gran Reserva Tarapacá Syrah 2014 received 90 points, and was described in the tasting notes as “an unusually minty Syrah with lots of bright blueberry character on the nose. Spices too. Fruit-forward and juicy. Full-bodied”.
